Effects of Gabaa-active Agents on Thermoregulataion in Rats
نویسندگان
چکیده
PURPOSE: Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the principal inhibitory neurotransmitter, which is widely distributed throughout the mammalian brain including hypothalamus. Immunohistochemical research have reported GABA-ergic neurons and GABAA-receptors on the neurons of the preoptic area of anterior hypothalamus (PO/AH). The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of GABAAergic substances on thermoregulation in rats. METHODS: We have studied the effects of GABAAactive agents, muscimol and diazepam on core body temperature in rats after systemic administration (intraperitoneally, i.p.). Body temperature was measured with thermistor probes (TX8) and monitored on multichannel recorder THERMEX 16. RESULTS: Intraperitoneal injection of muscimol or diazepam has produced dose-dependent hypothermia. Hypothermic effect of muscimol was inhibited by pretreatment of bicuculline, a competitive antagonist of GABAA-receptors. Diazepam induced hypothermia was antagonized by pretreatment of animals with flumazenil, a competitive antagonist of benzodiazepine receptors. CONCLUSION: Hypothermia induced by muscimol or diazepam suggest involvement of GABAA receptors in the processes of thermoregulation.

Interactive effect of aqueous-alcoholic extract of ginger as well as GABAA receptor agonist and antagonist on pain sensitivity in male rats
Introduction: Ginger has shown anti-nociceptive effects. Here we investigated the possible involvement of GABAA receptors in anti-nociceptive effect of ginger using muscimol (GABAA agonist) and picrotoxin (GABAA antagonist) in rats that received ginger. The pain sensitivity was evaluated by formalin test. Methods: Thirty-five male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 7 groups (n=5): s...

Fear can be considered as a functional defense behavior to protect living beings against dangerous situation. In our studies we have investigated the fear behavior in rats in elevated plus maze .The increase in two parameters percent of open arm entries (%OAE) and percent of time spent in the open arms (% OAT) and decrease in the percent of time spent in closed arm (%CAT) was considered as fear...

متن کاملEffects of Saffron and its Active Constituents, Crocin and Safranal, on Prevention of Indomethacin Induced Gastric Ulcers in Diabetic and Nondiabetic Rats
Background: Saffron is the dried stigmata of the flowers of saffron (Crocus sativus L., Iridaceae). Saffron is well known for the treatment of gastric disorders in traditional medicine. Objectives: In the search for new potential antiulcer agents, the effects of the ethanol extract of saffron and its active constituents crocin and safranal as compared with omeprazole against gastric ulcer i...
متن کاملAllopregnanolone suppresses diabetes-induced neuropathic pain and motor deficit through inhibition of GABAA receptor down-regulation in the spinal cord of diabetic rats
Objective(s):Painful diabetic neuropathy is associated with hyperexcitability and hyperactivity of spinal cord neurons. However, its underlying pathophysiological mechanisms have not been fully clarified. Induction of excitatory/inhibitory neurotransmission imbalance at the spinal cord seems to account for the abnormal neuronal activity in diabetes. Protective properties of neurosteroids have b...
